The Department of Petroleum Engineering originates from the Department of Oil Mining, established in 1952 within the Faculty of Mining at AGH University of Science and Technology. In its current form, it has been operating since 2007 as part of the Faculty of Drilling, Oil, and Gas.
Since its inception, the Department has been engaged in scientific research and teaching in the fields of reservoir engineering and technologies for the exploitation of liquid mineral resources. A significant part of this work involves the development of geological structures as well as the management and protection of groundwater, including those classified as mineral resources. The Department also conducts research on the environmental impact of extraction activities on soil, water, and the atmosphere.
The Department's team combines research and practical experience, carrying out interdisciplinary projects and collaborating with both industry and the public sector.
